Electrical Engineering Intern

New Insight Engineering is seeking a remote electrical engineering intern to create and modify drawings in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation from engineer-provided markups. The Intern will work directly with design engineers and project managers to produce multiple drawings with a high level of detail and efficiency to meet client deadlines and budgets. They will also be assigned a mentor to work with one-on-one to continue to expand their knowledge within design. Training will vary from online videos and Teams sessions to in-person training with equipment. Substation/field visits to shadow can be scheduled pending assignment availability and workload.

Main areas of draft work include:

• Protection & Control, SCADA, Communications (Single Line Diagrams, Schematics, SCADA and Communication drawings, Control Building Layouts and Elevations, Panel Front Views and Cabinet Layouts, Wiring Diagrams, Interconnection Drawings, AC/DC Station Service      drawings and other miscellaneous drawings as required by project scope)

• Physical Electrical (General Arrangement, Electrical Plans, Electrical Elevations, Sections and Details, Foundation Plans and Details, Structural Details, Grounding Plan and Details, Raceway Plan and Details, Equipment Vendor Files and other drawings as required by project scope). 

• Mental Effort: Ability to maintain prolonged concentration on computer with high attention to detail, organization, and efficiency
• Time Management: Ability to work remotely on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while maintaining customer delivery dates
• Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, willing to ask questions and provide timely updates relating to progress or issues
• Teamwork: Works collaboratively with others to achieve organizational goals
• Client focus: Provides added value through service excellence to internal and external clients

• Completion of a high school diploma or general equivalency degree (GED)
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

• Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the electrical engineering/architectural field
• Proficiency with manipulating vector and raster drawing files in AutoCAD
• File sharing, document management and collaboration tools such as ProjectWise, SharePoint, etc.
• 1+ years in electrical drafting
